Exciting Times at MIC: A New Era of Technology Infrastructure

Last month marked a significant milestone in our journey towards our Next Generation Infrastructure Platform (NGIP) based on Microsoft Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) and Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI).


We are thrilled to announce a major advancement: the ordering of a dedicated Oracle Exadata Cloud Environment platform for the EMEA region, strategically located in Frankfurt. This development is a critical step in enhancing our infrastructure capabilities, and a corresponding US counterpart, based in Ashburn, will follow shortly.

Our commitment to innovation and excellence in technology infrastructure is the driving force behind this strategic move. The integration of Microsoft Azure and OCI into our NGIP will provide unparalleled benefits to our customers, including increased efficiency, scalability, and robustness. The new platform operates worldwide, and the dedicated Oracle Cloud Environment in Frankfurt will serve as a cornerstone for our operations in the EMEA region, ensuring high availability, enhanced performance, and superior data management capabilities. 

The new infrastructure will also enable us to leverage advanced features such as autonomous database capabilities, real-application clusters, and comprehensive disaster recovery options. These features will significantly reduce downtime, enhance data protection, and provide a seamless user experience for our customers.

Furthermore, this advancement lays the groundwork for future technological innovations and expansions. By aligning our infrastructure with cutting-edge cloud technologies, we are positioning ourselves to meet the growing demands of our customers and stay ahead in the competitive landscape.

     Through our new state-of-the-art technical infrastructure, our SaaS solution will deliver unmatched benefits, including:  

  • High Availability: Achieving a 99.95% uptime for infrastructure is possible by using multiple availability zones and autonomous databases with real-application clusters. 
  • Synergies Across Multiple Customers: By running multiple customers on the same platform, we can quickly check if other customers are affected in the event of an IT incident, enhancing our response capabilities.
  • Automated Installations: Automation reduces the effort required for installing release upgrades and service releases for certain modules, making the process more efficient.
  • Quick System Recovery: Multiple disaster recovery options, such as backups, snapshots, and regular testing ensure the fastest system recovery.
  • Out-of-the-Box Scalability: Automatic database scalability by a factor of 3x allows for quick addition of CPUs, storage, instances and more, supporting rapid growth and adaptation to changing demands.
  • State-of-the-Art Infrastructure Maintenance: Regular updates and maintenance with minimum or no downtime for hardware and software, along with efficient procurement and capacity management, keep our infrastructure up-to-date and reliable.
  • Data Warehouse: A productive database will be synchronized with a data warehouse, which can then be - used for business reporting, audits and/or archiving purposes and serves as - the base for our data analytics tool.

These benefits are designed to provide robust, reliable, and scalable infrastructure solutions, ensuring that our customers can focus on their core business activities without worrying about IT issues.     

First customers migrated successfully to Kubernetes

The first few customers have been successfully migrated from the Eclipse Remote Application Platform, which runs on virtual machines, to the VMware Tanzu Kubernetes SaaS  cluster. These migrations marked the first real test for running our MIC-GTM application in Kubernetes and a major step towards NGIP and OCI. Overall, this has been a resounding success as it lays the foundation for automated MIC software deployments with zero downtime.
